Author : Christian BlakeTraffic Generation is the key to success when it comes to online marketing Whether you’re an independent marketer, a real estate agent, or any other type of business, your online revenue will live and die by traffic generation While there are countless methods for generating traffic to your website, this article will discuss parasite hosting
What exactly is parasite hosting? Let’s first analyze the word parasite According to a typical dictionary, here is what the word parasite means: an organism that lives on or in a host organism and obtains its nutrients from the host
Hopefully that definition is self-explanatory, but if not, let me rephrase the definition to how it relates to internet marketing: a parasite web page obtains traffic power from its host website which is usually a large, older domain that has hundreds of thousands of recognized back links
When you build a parasite page, you are attaching your information onto a trusted, older site, and you’re usually doing it with their permission While there are ways to sneak your information onto websites that otherwise don’t allow parasite hosting, there is really no need to because there are thousands of websites that will gladly let you use them as a parasite host
Most people use parasite hosting to pitch a single product or service Let’s say you wanted to sell an online dating ebook that pays out a 75% commission for every sale you generate The easiest thing to do is to go to a huge domain, like Squidoo, and create a page (or lens) about online dating Then you simply place your affiliate link inside the lens, usually at the top, middle, and bottom of the parasite page That’s it Nothing too complicated about that, is it?
The next step is to acquire back links to your new parasite page You can do this with article writing, social bookmarking, and even torrents There are countless ways to get back links to your parasite pages
The more back links you get, the more traffic you will generate to your parasite page, and the more likely you will generate a sale And since you are using parasite hosting, you can literally get thousands of back links overnight and the search engines won’t blink an eye; you will not be penalized for acquiring too many back links too quickly Why? Because your host website (in this case Squidoo) already has millions of back links pointing to it
The major drawback to parasite hosting is you do not own the page that you are working on, the primary domain owns it Why is this bad? It’s not bad, per se, but it’s definitely a drawback If for some reason the moderators at your host site suddenly decided to delete your parasite page, they could do so and you would lose all the back links you worked so hard to establish Or if the domain owners decided to change the domain altogether, or sell it, you would have no say in the matter Your sales page is entirely within their control
While parasite hosting has its drawbacks, it also has its uses As mentioned above, you can use it to pitch products You can also use it to establish back links to your domains and help them rank higher in the search results For example, if you were trying to rank for the term “online dating ebook”, you could build 200 parasite pages and have all of them link to your website with the same anchor text Your primary site would then rank better in the search results for that term
Parasite hosting is just one of many “tricks of the trade” Use it to your advantage, but don’t rely on it 100% - you never know what can happen! For a great book about Parasite Hosting and organic traffic generation, please visit: Online Marketing System.
